"It is fun to walk out the door… The day lilies, having 25 different varieties each year, one will turn on, 2 or 3, then a couple of days will go by and you’ve got 5 different kind of blooms then you have 10, then 15. It is really glorious. I love that excitement of going out and seeing what’s in bloom today. Discovering those plants that just do well here, that has been kind of a treat. For me the artist part of it, the compositions, the fact that I can put a straw colored Lace Capped Hydrangea in front of a dark bush, blend colors, forms. I really look at gardening as a kind of time released fire crackers that go off in a certain sequence that make a show."
