Town Meeting Minutes
Arden is a "pure" democracy, with every resident (who is over 18 and a resident
for the last six months or more) eligible to vote on issues affecting the
village.
Advisory Committee Minutes
Representatives of all the committees, plus the Arden trustees and town officers,
meet to discuss the issues to be presented at the next Town Meeting and to inform each other of their work. These
meetings are usually scheduled on the first Monday of January, March, June
and September. There is also usually a November meeting to discuss long-range
issues.
Board
of Assessors
This board sets the land tax rate on leaseholds. This board not a committee
of the Town Assembly but a separate body elected in November, with ballots
mailed to every resident of the village.
Budget Committee Minutes
This committee presents an annual budget in September
that, once approved by the Town Assembly, is sent out for approval by referendum
in November, with ballots mailed to every resident of the village. To take
effect, the budget must be approved by a majority of eligible voters (not
simply by a majority of those voting). Also, in March, this committee presents
a 3-year budget forecast at the Town Meeting.
