Ardentown Composting
Site
Among
the various compost activities, for all ages,
are:
The filling of the eight compost units of
the "Compost
Demonstration Site" or “Compost
Park”, an outdoor education center. Bring
a bag of leaves and your kitchen scraps like
coffee grounds, banana peels and other organic
material (keep separate from leaves). Arden's
Youth and Scouts will assist in carrying the
filled 5-gallon containers to all units, which
helps start the composting process.
- Try the
compost grab barrel.
- Meet and feed the worms
in wormbox.
- Information and handouts about composting
at home.
- Bring your completed worm word search,
see backside and qualify for winning a
Recycle Game, a game like Monopoly.
- Qualify to win a
Prefabricated Compost Bin, $45 value, by
filling out the “Win A
Bin” section of this paper.
- Sign up for
a free one-hour compost session.
- Nature walk
in the Glen, (woods behind Candlelight).
- No
raindate. Some compost activities are held
inside the Candlelight.
The Ardentown Composting Site has
two components
- Two large three-bin units for
Ardentown's leaves and wood chips.
- A Compost Demonstration
Site for
residents and friends of the three Ardens.
As part of the town of Ardentown's goal of
reducing the 19% of the waste stream that is
yard waste, a public Composting Site is
created.
The October 2005 issue of the Arden Page
includes an 8-page "Start Composting Today" brochure
for your use. If more of these brochures are
needed or if there are compost related questions,
please call Hetty Francke: 475-9157.
Members of the "Ad Hoc Committee" of
the Ardentown Public Works & Safety Committee
are delighted to prepare and execute this very
important recycling / composting project. We
have only one Planet Earth! Let us take care
of it and make a difference. Think Globally,
Act Locally.
- Hetty Francke, Maryann Nelson, Elaine Schmerling.
This project is funded in part by a grant
from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources
and Environmental Control and the Recycling
Public Advisory Council. For information about
