Harvey Road Accidents

Harvey Road, a two-lane state highway, runs down the middle of the three villages of Arden, Ardentown and Ardencroft.

Our utopian villages, inspired by cultural ideals dating to the 1800s, are often at odds with the thousands of drivers who pass through the villages each day on this road, which connects to nearby Interstate 95.

The State of Delaware has posted 25 MPH speed limits, though the average speed is higher, about 31 MPH. Individual drivers often drive faster. At night and in the rain, it is not unusual for some to drive too fast to stay on the road, especially at the deceptive intersection with Orleans Road, where Harvey curves.

Some Recent History

Saturday, November 21, 2009, 4:00 p.m.: Tristan Moosreiner, age 21, walking along Harvey Road near Veale, was killed. He had just finished work for the day at a house in Ardentown and was walking to meet a co-worker nearby. A woman, age 44, of Wilmington was headed north on Veale Road in a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. Police said she was making a right turn onto Harvey Road when she struck Moosreiner, who was later flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition with head injuries. Moosreiner died at 11:11 p.m., according to police. Moosreiner's vital organs, including his heart, are now keeping others alive. His remains are buried in the Arden Memorial Garden.
